How do I make an appointment?

A referral from a GP, hospital clinician or health practitioner is required for any scan or radiology investigation. Please ask them to complete a referral form and you will be contacted to arrange an appointment.

How do I get my results?

Scans are reported promptly by the Consultant Radiologist who will send the result to your GP or referring Consultant by email. If you are seeing a hospital Consultant immediately after your test, please inform the Radiology staff so that arrangements can be made to make the report available to the Specialist prior to your Consultation. Reports and images are fully integrated within the NHS and may be accessible locally to referrers through the ICE system.

Where are the scans performed?

All scans are performed at the Royal United Hospital in Bath which is an NHS hospital. Please note that the RUH is a busy NHS hospital and there is no separate private facility or parking. Scans are performed on NHS equipment.

What is the experience like at Royal United Hospital?

Due to the expensive nature of the equipment required to perform these scans, this equipment is rarely available in the private sector. All our scans are performed at the Royal United Hospital in Bath which is a busy NHS hospital. There is no dedicated private facility or parking available and the scans are performed on NHS equipment by staff employed by the hospital. This arrangement is relatively common across much of the NHS and is not unusual, especially in the case of highly specialised, niche services like PET-CT. Any profit is reinvested into the service and the hospital to improve care and facilities.

As a result of this, your experience may not be equivalent to other examples of private healthcare elsewhere which may be provided in a dedicated private facility able to offer ammeneties which are not possible on an NHS site.
